The social impact of a level knowledge field can be enormous—information justice is one of the great challenges facing us at the outset of this century. Sometimes information is being concealed as a matter of principle, almost invariably questionable—much more often mere interface barriers are what prevents people from making use of information.

Through creation of comprehensive, relevant data repositories open to the worldwide public in accessible, user-friendly ways—as well as through active support of organizations promoting free access to information—Vilk intends to make a difference.
